A Chance to Learn about Coliseum City plans at First East Bay Business Summit

A group of fans who want to keep Oakland's professional sports teams in Oakland, called Save Oakland Sports, are hosting the first annual "East Bay Business Summit" on Thursday, Feb 6, to hear from members of the Raiders, Mayor Jean Quan and the development team who want to build a sports and entertainment complex at Coliseum City.

The two-hour get-together starts at 5.30 pm at the Oakland Airport Hilton Hotel, One Hegenberger Road. The group says it invited representatives from the A's, Raiders and Warriors to attend. It also plans to provide information on what fans and local businesses can do to help keep the teams here - that could include things like suite sales, group tickets and team sponsorships.

A's co-owner Lew Wolff recently discouraged talk that he would move the team to an alternative proposed site at Howard Terminal near Jack London Square - closer to downtown but still nearly one mile from the closest BART stations at West Oakland and at 12th Streets. He said he was interested in finding out more about the Coliseum City proposal, which aims to build new stadiums for the Raiders and A's, a new arena for the Warriors, with revive the 750 acre-site with housing, retail and commercial business development.

The SOS website - http://www.saveoaklandsports.org/site/?cat=3 - also has a petition with more than 900 signatures to encourage fan support for keeping Oakland's sports teams here in the East Bay.

The website newballpark.org - http://newballpark.org/ - has done a terrific job staying current with the Howard Terminal and Coliseum City proposals, and its editor has created an informative Coliseum City page on his website -http://newballpark.org/coliseum-city/
